I realized today that many parts of pregnancy are TOTALLY DISGUSTING!
Now, I know that my Mom is reading this, thinking to herself, "I didn't raise my daughter to think women's bodies were disgusting."
Well, maybe you've never woken up to find the following in your email box, as you sip you morning decaf...
"Leukorrhea is normal vaginal discharge in pregnancy. Usually white or pale yellow, leukorrhea is the result of increased white blood cells during pregnancy. If this discharge is excessively heavy, greenish or smells bad, it may indicate an infection -- contact your caregiver..."
Yuck. Rereading that actually makes me feel faint...greenish smelly discharge. That's like, 500 reasons to wear cotton underwear (thanks, Michi!).
Okay, I'm all finished now.
* * * *
I've been doing some online window shopping (Hint: If anyone rich who cares about us is reading, sit up, pay attention!). Shopping is therapy, even if my wallet stays in my purse.
First item on the list...the quintessential Jogging Stroller! What kind of young urban professionals would we be without a jogging stroller, also known as the Baby SUV.

Cut to TheGirl's post-natal fantasy...

Let's see, what else. We've decided that for the purposes of easy nighttime breastfeeding sessions, we're going to let the baby sleep with us. We do, however, have the pleasure of sharing our bed with an extremely bitchy small dog (more on him later...) Since I don't want the dog to eat the baby in the night, we've settled on the Co Sleeper, made by a company called Arms Reach. It looks really cool...kind of "Of" the bed, not "In" it.

See? Shopping is much better than worrying about the 7lbs I've gained so far (I'm short, so that's the equivalent of a whole new torso for me.) Sigh. Anyways, back to anything but that...
Monday, June 3, 2002 10 Weeks, 3 Days
Well, this is it. My abandoned blog, sitting like a vacant lot since September 11, 2001, has been bulldozed and rebuilt as Pocketsound, The Journey of TheEgg.
TheBoy and I are officially expecting our first offspring, currently named TheEgg. Our due date is tentatively scheduled for December 28, 2002. Ironically, that date is also our one year wedding anniversary. And who ever said that my life was over-planned.
I've been devouring other women's pregnancy diaries, and it was just a matter of time before I made my own, I suppose. One of my favorites, by the way, and currently in labour as I type, is Bun in the Oven. I wait with bated breath to hear how her labour progresses...
And so it happens...one day, just ONE DAY is all it took for me to abandon without a second glance the rock and roll news, the runway fashions, even the tech news. No CSS ideas, no new technological breakthroughs, not even the new Star Wars episode could compete with graphic labour stories, photos of fetal growth, and tales of cervical dilation. I've turned into someone else overnight...even the most mundane people are fascinating if they have had a child. Which for someone like me, who has eyed other women warily all of my life, is such a welcome relief. Hey everyone, I like girls now! Yippee...
This newfound appreciation for the gentler sex is timely, since I suspect TheEgg is indeed a girl. Why? Again, who knows. A mysterious knowledge, similar to the knowledge that eating chicken will make me hurl. I just know.
The pregnancy has been uneventful so far (knock on wood.) I have not been treated to any of the goodies available to expecting moms in the US, such as ultrasound, or even a fetal heartbeat. Medical care here in Canada, while adequate, doesn't allow us extra perks like that. One ultrasound is all, and not for awhile.
This is a bit of a pity, since I look huge already, and would appreciate some reassurance that I am not having a litter. I was going to keep the pregnancy a secret until the end of the first trimester, but any observant human could just use their eyes to spot my condition...could this be normal, at not quite eleven weeks???
